about

This song was inspired by a deep conversation we had the other night with our friend and roommate, Ben Sasnett, about the cosmos and the "Deep Field", which is a very fascinating and mind-blowing topic of conversation. I would encourage anyone to google "The Deep Field" and see the photo that the Hubble telescope captured. It was focused in on what was a very small "dark spot" in the universe, where we thought nothing existed. But when the telescope was positioned in the same location with it's camera shutter open for 10 days straight, it captured over 1,500 galaxies, never seen before. It is impossible for me to put into words the sensation that washes over me when I look at that photo. Those little lights are clusters of billions of stars that make up thousands of individual galaxies. GALAXIES!

lyrics

When I'm looking out
Darkness, true as love is
All of life lives now
And I hardly notice
I go off to work so I get my
Tiny paycheck in the mailbox

Mystery surrounds
Every step that I've taken
When I think of all the kin it took
To get where I'm going
How far back do we have to go to consider our
Relatives to be relative to us?

Can there truly be space in my head?
To sit for hours alone, uninterrupted
Well, how long does it take to truly become awake?
